Change

I would like to return to what Elissa said about life itself: “the more things change is the more things stay the same.” When Elissa says this, racism is an obvious example that comes to her mind. “Why am I saying Black Lives Matter when they did that already?” she asked in regards to the Civil Rights Movement. “Now, we got the medication and aall this technology… and yet we’re too stupid as a people to… figure out just the very basics over race and culture.” Elissa recognizes that history repeats itself. She also recognizes that history and research provide an opportunity for empathy. It is up to us, each person an actor in the storytelling of history, to decide when and how history repeats itself, and if the cycle need always be the same.
